My worst CX race ever. A couple highlights though…

I have no idea why we have had so much rain this fall. A literal deluge the last few days; resulting in a complete mud bath today at Devou Park in Covington, KY. The 3-day Cicncy weekend is one of the Ohio Valley cross series highlights. This year it coincided with fall break, so Will wanted to try the Friday, Sat, Sun triple header.

The course today was horrific. KC nationals was bad mud, but at least had only one off camber for 100 yards or so. Today, it was KC off camber for half the course. Another 1/3 of course was wet/muddy cart path. Like RRCC but really long sections of wet asphalt. Not complaining, just the facts. Here is a video I shot of Will on one of the many run-ups.
I was horrible. Really horrible. Lost my mojo, stiffened up and gased myself running through ankle deep mud after sliding out 1 dozen plus times.
There were a couple highlights though. As always, it was going with Will. He rode great. Calm, focused and strong. He raced with 80 or so Cat 4 men and passed many of them. He seems to know how not to drill himself out. That’s nice.
Second highlight was Will, Jedidiah and Edward working the pits for me. As the number of Louisvillians there today was small, the 3 under 13 Redzoners helped me out in the pits. They cheered and got my bike clean and ready to go. Will was yelling, “COME ON PASS THAT GUY,” as this dude and I were going 2.4mph through 3″ mud. It was amazing how resourceful they were getting the mud off.
Will, “how did you get that bike so clean?” “Oh, there were a bunch of guys with hoses, they helped us.” Very nice.

Finally, thanks to the Louisville contingent for cheering for me. Lee, I heard you loud and clear. It was cool.
Here’s hoping for better karma tomorrow.
